Jesus commissions His disciples with authority but strips away every illusion of safety and comfort. “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves” ~Matthew 10:16. Following Jesus is not portrayed here as protected religious duty but obedient life that the world will oppose.
The passage crushes spiritual shallowness. Jesus doesn’t say “you may face persecution.” He says, “they will deliver you up.” “They will scourge you in their synagogues” ~Matthew 10:17. Faithfulness equals pressure, silence and compromise are never promised as an alternative.
Opposition won’t take you by surprise. Jesus bases obedience on God’s faithfulness, not human capability. When the time comes that you are persecuted “it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you” ~Matthew 10:20. Endurance is not one more work we have to pile on salvation. It’s the evidence of who really is His.
“He that endureth to the end shall be saved” ~Matthew 10:22.
Does the Christianity you’re living look anything like this? Or are you following the Christ of Matthew 10 or a watered down Christ who will never lead you into wolves?
