I remember the story how that Solomon said "bring me a sword and cut the child in two and give half to each woman"
something like that... and then they say, "Solomon gave the child to the mother of the living child." He actually did not.

I Kings 3:
26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

This is the KJV version. Solomon doesn't point to the mother of the child. If you understand how dialogue works in a story, you can see that the last woman to speak is the woman who says cut the child in half and the next words are Solomon's and he says give her the child, she is the mother thereof and Israel feared Solomon...

Even Jesus says don't go to court. This is probably the reason why...

Matthew 5:25
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

Good morning, Mean Mountain Robot;

In verse 27 and 28 of the ESV and several translations, 27 Then the king answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no means put him to death; she is his mother.” - ESV

He actually did.

In my personal study and teaching of the context, Solomon's testimony revealed his goodness and generosity toward a couple of "harlots or innkeepers." The true mother revealed her true parental love putting his life over her's. Solomon saw this and rewarded the mother.

The context in this story is not directed at not going to court, instead, Solomon's wisdom, love and judgment settled the matter and was revealed by all Israel.

God bless
you, Mean Mountain Robot, and your family.

That's why I stick to the KJV. It's hasn't gone through "correction"...
Thomas Jefferson wrote a version of the bible, too, but I bet he left that part alone... 101
