The Wisdom the World Can’t Grasp

Most people today think they’re wise. They chase after information, degrees, self-help, and spiritual “insight” from every corner of culture. But the Bible makes it clear—there’s a wisdom from God that this world will never understand. It’s not taught in classrooms or uncovered through self-discovery. It’s revealed by the Spirit of God, and only those who belong to Him can receive it.

Paul said, “We speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who come to nothing” (1 Corinthians 2:6). God’s wisdom is eternal. The world’s wisdom is temporary, shallow, and passing away. The most brilliant minds of the age didn’t recognize Jesus when He walked among them. “For had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory” (1 Corinthians 2:8). They looked at the cross and saw weakness, not realizing it was the power of God on full display.

God’s wisdom doesn’t come through logic or intellect. It comes by revelation. “God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10). That’s the key. Without the Holy Spirit, no one can grasp the things of God. Paul didn’t speak with fancy words or impressive arguments—he delivered truth that the Spirit would make alive to those with ears to hear. “We have received…the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).

But not everyone gets it. Paul draws a line between the spiritual person and the natural person. “The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him” (1 Corinthians 2:14). That explains why so many scoff at Scripture or twist it to fit their opinions. They don’t have the Spirit, so they can’t see the truth. But for those who are in Christ, Paul says, “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). That changes everything.

Then Paul takes it a step further in chapter 3. He rebukes believers who are still acting like the world. He calls them spiritual infants, stuck on milk instead of growing into solid truth. “You are still carnal,” he says, “for where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?” (1 Corinthians 3:3). The same people who were supposed to have the Spirit were still acting like the world, dividing over personalities and showing no spiritual maturity.

This is still a problem today. People divide over pastors, movements, trends, or denominational labels—just like Corinth. But that’s not the mind of Christ. That’s flesh. And Paul says it plainly: grow up. Stop following people. Start following Christ. If you have the Spirit, stop living like those who don’t.

The wisdom of God is not just information. It’s transformation. And the more you walk in the Spirit, the clearer it becomes. The world may call it foolish. The carnal may stay stuck in jealousy and division. But those who truly know Christ will press on from milk to meat, from pride to humility, from the wisdom of this age to the wisdom of God.

So ask yourself—am I living by the wisdom of God or the wisdom of man? Am I walking by the Spirit, or still acting like the world? Because the ones who have the mind of Christ will not only understand truth, they’ll live it.
