How to Effectively Study and Interpret Scripture
Second Post of a Series, Following Bible Study Biases
Second Post of a Series, Following Bible Study Biases
The second element of all Bible studies is its interpretation. Reading a series of words without understanding is generally considered a waste of time, so every time one reads anything, they automatically interpret what they have read. Therefore, Bible interpretation is probably the most practiced exercise for professing Christians and one of the least understood!
Due to the various methods of Bible interpretation available, the biases we bring to that task, and our strong desire to be “right” in our thinking (playing right-wrong games), relationships break, churches split, house churches increase in number, and another denomination is formed. The solution? The only correct interpretation of any scripture is what the original writer intended! Our task is to uncover that intent and accept the message for what it means, even when it hurts. It's not a task for the spiritually lazy or the faint of heart. Why? Because you will confront yourself and expose your secret heart.
