How to Study the Bible

I strongly advocate for daily Bible reading and the “Reading the Bible Through in a Year” program, which will significantly enhance one’s understanding of the word of God and lead to measurable spiritual growth. Bible reading is a great exercise and offers great rewards. However, Bible study is a very different pursuit.

As you mature in Christ, you may want to explore God’s word more deeply. Be forewarned that this is a challenging task; it demands dedication, time, effort, prayer, and a willingness to be brutally honest with yourself. Why? You might find that some of your most cherished doctrines and/or theology need to be significantly revised or discarded. Yet, “be of good courage”; spiritual growth toward maturity lies ahead of you.

In the future, I plan to provide a detailed outline of the steps and processes that you may find valuable in your studies. As an introduction, I am attaching a brief outline of some biases we bring to our Bible studies.
May your studies be blessed.

“Bible Study Biases.pdf” is a strong and biblically sound resource that stays true to the foundation of Sola Scriptura. It rightly exalts Scripture as the highest and final authority in all matters of faith and doctrine, warning against the dangers of letting personal bias, tradition, or emotional experience cloud the truth of God’s Word. The document makes clear that while the Holy Spirit and mature believers can help us understand the Bible, they are not sources of truth equal to Scripture itself. It promotes a careful, disciplined study of the Bible with the goal of understanding what God actually said, not what we want it to say. In short, this guide serves as a needed reminder that the Bible must be studied with humility, reverence, and a commitment to truth over opinion.

The Bible is not on trial. Man is. Jesus said, “the scripture cannot be broken” ~John 10:35. God’s Word does not bow before modern skepticism. It exposes the heart and stands forever. The question is not whether Scripture will stand. It will. The question is whether we will stand with it.
When God warns you, don’t brush it off. Answer Him while you still can, because a hardened heart doesn’t stay neutral, it moves toward judgment. Scripture is clear: “Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts” ~Hebrews 3:15, and again, “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” ~Proverbs 29:1.
We must be careful not to cater to people's carnal desires, but rather point them to God.
