@creationliberty - Christopher Johnson of Creation Liberty Evangelism recently published a broadcast accusing me of teaching a false gospel. Instead of clearly quoting my teaching and proving his charge from Scripture, much of what I heard was mockery, speculation, personal attacks, and unsupported accusations.
I am not posting this because I want a debate or because his opinion of me troubles me. He does not know me, and I do not have time to entertain endless arguments with someone who appears more interested in provoking people than honestly examining the Bible. I have not yet watched his entire video, so I will address only the statements I have personally heard and verified.
When you try to teach the truth of Scripture without bending it to please people, opposition will come. People do not like having false teaching exposed. But this is not a competition for followers, attention, or applause. I only have to please the Lord Jesus Christ, and I am trying to do the best I can to point people back to His Word.
“For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ” ~Galatians 1:10.
Because Christopher made his accusations publicly and misrepresented the biblical teaching of repentance, I am answering publicly. Let the Scriptures judge the matter.
Creationliberty - Chris Johnson, you opened your broadcast by declaring that you were going to expose a false gospel. Yet instead of opening the Bible and proving a false doctrine from Scripture, you filled your program with mockery, speculation, and accusations you did not establish. That is not biblical discernment. It is reckless judgment dressed in religious language.
You spoke about photographs, age, websites, domain names, readership, writing habits, and supposed motives. What does any of that prove concerning the gospel? Absolutely nothing. You declared the verdict before presenting the evidence. Scripture has a name for that: “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him” ~Proverbs 18:13.
You called a me a false teacher without first quoting my actual teaching of the gospel plainly and demonstrating from Scripture where it was false. You substituted insinuation for exegesis and ridicule for evidence. Then you acted as though confidence and volume could make the accusation true. They cannot. “The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him” ~Proverbs 18:17.
You even admitted that the material you examined was “generally correct.” Then, because that admission damaged your accusation, you claimed that the writer probably did not understand what he had written. How could you possibly know that? “The LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” ~1 Samuel 16:7. You are permitted to judge public doctrine by Scripture. You are not permitted to pretend you can see another man’s understanding, motives, or heart. That belongs to God.
You called the repeated publication of free Bible studies “scamming people.” Where was the fraud? Who lost money? What was stolen? What false product was sold? You presented none. You took the ordinary act of republishing biblical material and attached the word “scam” to it because the word sounded damaging. That is not discernment. That is bearing false witness. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” ~Exodus 20:16. “A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” is among the things the Lord hates ~Proverbs 6:19. Do not hide behind the excuse that you were merely asking questions or giving your opinion. You publicly accused a me of deception without establishing deception. God will judge every careless word. “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” ~Matthew 12:36.
Caleb, you joined the accusation by speaking vaguely about a “false doctrine on salvation,” yet you did not identify the doctrine, quote the statement, or open the Bible to refute it. A vague accusation is not a biblical rebuke. It is empty talk. If you believe someone teaches a false gospel, then state exactly what he teaches and show exactly where Scripture condemns it. Otherwise, stop repeating grave accusations you have not proved. “He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace” ~Proverbs 11:12.
Kenneth, your participation in the broadcast does not automatically make you guilty of every statement Chris made. But sitting beside public false accusation without correcting it is not a harmless position. You are responsible for what you endorse, repeat, or permit under the name of Christian ministry.
Now we come to the central doctrinal issue: repentance. Chris, you mocked the teaching that repentance involves turning from sin and dismissed it as works-based salvation. You suggested that repentance is simply a renamed human work added to faith. That accusation collides directly with the words of Jesus Christ. “Repent ye, and believe the gospel” ~Mark 1:15. “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” ~Luke 13:3. Peter preached, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” ~Acts 3:19. Paul described the message he preached as “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” ~Acts 20:21. God “now commandeth all men every where to repent” ~Acts 17:30.
Repentance is not a meritorious work that purchases salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith, “not of works” ~Ephesians 2:8-9. But the same Bible that excludes works as the ground of salvation commands sinners to repent. Repentance is a turning of the heart toward God, away from rebellion and unbelief. It is not cleaning up one’s life in order to earn Christ. It is abandoning the defense of sin and coming to Christ as Lord and Savior. Its reality will afterward be demonstrated by “works meet for repentance” ~Acts 26:20. The works are the evidence of repentance, not its purchase price.
When you label the biblical call to repentance a false, works-based gospel, you are not merely arguing with another preacher. You are contradicting Jesus Christ and the apostles. That is the dangerous teaching in this matter.
You present yourself as a defender of discernment, yet discernment begins with trembling before the Word of God. It does not begin with announcing that everyone else is false, mocking them for hours, assigning motives, and then searching for something to support the verdict. “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom” ~James 3:13. Your broadcast did not display meekness of wisdom. It displayed bitter accusation, presumption, and contempt. “But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth” ~James 3:14.
Do not mistake harshness for courage. Do not mistake sarcasm for discernment. Do not mistake an audience for God’s approval. The prophets of Baal also had numbers, noise, and confidence. They were still wrong.
You claim to expose lies. Begin by repenting of the unsupported accusations in your own mouth. You claim to defend the gospel. Then stop treating Christ’s command to repent as though it were an enemy of grace. You claim to judge teachers by the King James Bible. Then actually do it. Quote the doctrine accurately, examine it in context, and prove your charge from Scripture. Stop relying on associations, personalities, mockery, assumptions, and personal contempt. “Speak not evil one of another” ~James 4:11. “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour” ~Ephesians 4:25.
This is the final warning: fear God more than you enjoy exposing people. If you have spoken falsely, retract it. If you have misrepresented repentance, correct it. If you have accused without evidence, confess it. If you truly possess the truth, you should not need slander to defend it. The Word of God is sharp enough. Your carnal mockery adds nothing to it. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword” ~Hebrews 4:12.
Repent, correct the record, and return to the Scriptures before your ministry of “discernment” becomes nothing more than a platform for accusation, pride, and another gospel without biblical repentance.
