Good morning, everyone;
I enjoy listening to sermons on Christian talk radio when I'm driving. I've always been respectful for any Christian preacher who delivers God's Word.
For some reason in 2026, I've noticed most sermons on the radio are topical, a subject or theme using using Bible verses that benefit life applications. Expository sermons choose a specific passage of the Bible and teach through it verse by verse and can last over several Sundays. Expository can benefit learning how to read and study the Bible for themselves.
But I have a constructive concern, and that's an increase use of word salads and talking points from many preachers speaking from the pulpit. I try to overlook this and focus on the message and how it aligns with the Scriptures.
I feel familiar phrases and talking points that I may or may not be up to date on waters down the core of what God is saying and becomes a performance presentation. An example of a distracting performance, one gospel preacher will change his tone of voice and use a "high school southern accent" to get through to younger Christians in the audience. I cringe when he does that. Do away with the style and direct the message to the congregation as a whole.
I'm doing a self check and confess my grievance to God in my confession. I choose to pray for all preachers, not grade or judge them. In the Old and New Testaments God holds preachers and teachers strictly accountable for what they preach according to Scripture - Ezekiel 33, 34, 1 Corinthians 4, Titus 1, Hebrews 13, James 3 and more....
On the flip side I have noticed more and more of this style of preaching so I try to salvage the main verb of the message and put aside the word salads and talking points.
What are your thoughts about sermons you listen to?
God bless you all.
Bob
