Charley Kirk lost his life this week and one of the things he was spreading was about the Sabbath....

"Charlie Kirk
Charlie grew up Presbyterian. Discovered the Sabbath in the Bible. Also heard a radio speaker talking about the blessings of Shabbat. They started keeping it. He loves to talk about the sabbath; he gets tired of politics. He is writing a book on the sabbath. Stop in the name of God.

Sabbath helped him immensely. Before he started keeping it, he was sleeping poorly and burning the candle at both ends. He heard Dennis Prager talk about keeping the Sabbath. He got jealous of him after hearing about God’s divine stop sign. They made a commitment to start keeping it.

The Sabbath is a prioritizing of who is in the church. Genesis 1:1 sets the tone for God’s requirements and authority. The Catholic church tried to change the Sabbath to Sunday. It is the most ignored Commandment of the Decalogue. Honoring the sabbath helps you keep the other 9.

Dr. James Marcum shares the Sabbath with patients who are faced with health crisis. People use dopamine to make up for a lack of Bible truth in their lives. True worship activates a healthy part of the brain, that includes the Sabbath.

Charlie turns off his phone Friday night till sabbath night. Turns it off, his family uses electric on Sabbath. No news on Sabbath. If I can turn my phone off you can too. Charlie has 1500 employees. They know not to try calling him on the Sabbath. He turns his phone off. One time the President tried calling him on Sabbath. Charlie did not answer it. This day is for the Creator God and his Saviour.

Sabbath keeps you distinct from other people. Sometimes other Christians give you a hard time for keeping it. If I walk into your house on Sabbath, can I tell something different is happening? All family, all Jesus.

Ivan asked “How do you connect Jesus to Sabbath?”

Charlie: There is some sloppy teaching that Jesus broke the Sabbath. Two miracles, creation and resurrection affirm the Sabbath.

There are two types of people.

We are an unhappy accident.

Or creation. We are a miracle. By honoring the sabbath we are pushing back against dark nihilism in our world.

Never worship creation. Worship the creator. Romans 1.

Flesh fights the Sabbath. The enemy wants to prioritize materialism over the Creator. "Will You Be Made Whole? - Friday — Fulcrum7

The Sabbath is a prioritizing of who is in the church.
I love people’s passion for wanting to honor God, but I also want to guard against elevating the observance of a day above the gospel. The Bible is clear: “Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ” (Colossians 2:16–17).

Jesus Himself is our Sabbath rest: “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The rest He provides is not based on a 24-hour period. The Sabbath rest is based on the accomplished work of Christ on the cross. By faith we enter into God’s rest (Hebrews 4:9–10).

Observing a Sabbath day is fine if that’s a conviction someone has before God. It is not, however, the foundation of our salvation. Paul reminded the Galatians of this when some were trying to bring the observance of the law as part of the Christian life: “You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace” (Galatians 5:4).

The gospel is not “Christ plus a day.” It is Christ alone. Faith in Him brings forgiveness, new life, and eternal rest. All the rest flows from that.

We do not promote Seventh-day Adventist theology on this forum.

Here’s the deal: A Seventh-day Adventist can be a Christian if they’re trusting in Christ alone for salvation. Because the Bible is crystal clear, “By grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God, not of works” (Ephesians 2:8–9). You don’t get into heaven by law-keeping, Sabbath-keeping, or any other keeping. You get in by Jesus keeping you.

Now, the concern is this: the SDA system often adds things God didn’t require. Paul said in Colossians 2:16–17, don’t let anyone judge you by Sabbath days, that was a shadow, Christ is the substance. The “investigative judgment” doctrine? That’s like saying the cross wasn’t enough. But Jesus said on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30). And Hebrews 10:14 says He perfected forever those who are sanctified. No add-ons required.

So yes, an individual Adventist may love Jesus and be saved by His grace. But anytime a system makes you think it’s “Jesus plus” something, Jesus plus Sabbath, Jesus plus diet, Jesus plus a prophet, you’ve just lost grace. Galatians 5:4 says if you try to be justified by law, you’ve fallen from grace.

Here’s the bottom line: Jesus Christ is enough. Full stop. You don’t need Jesus plus anything, you need Jesus period.

I dont mean to promote anything but truth, if you decide its not proper its fine to take off, but lets look to see what Gods Word was saying. Paul was talking about the ceremonial days that the Jews had, as the Sabbath, God wrote with His own finger doesnt change as long as God is with us. Lets take a look at the verse and notice what it says...
Colossians 2:14-16
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

This verse is referring to the Mosaic Law (ceremonial law) and this is evident by the inclusion of the "new moon" phrase as well as reference to the meat and drink offerings that would take place. There are two sets of laws in play here, two types of sabbaths; one was described as being against us, contrary to us, and then the 10 Commandments which were not against us and clearly not grievous.
1 John 5:3
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Now there isn't a single "ordinance" in the 10 Commandment, so clearly this is festival regulations and the like. We see what Christ said about the burdens the leaders and pharisees had added and He called them grievous and burdens..

Matthew 23:4
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Luke 11:46
And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

Now look at Leviticus 23:37-39
37 These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
38 Beside the sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the Lord.
39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

Notice in the verse 38 the word "beside", means in addition to, these feasts were the sabbaths that were in addition to the weekly seventh-day Sabbath. It is these sabbaths, not the weekly seventh-day Sabbath, that Colossians 2:14 is talking about. This is clearly verified when one looks at the descriptors of "meat" and "drink" which are in reference to the offerings that would take place under Mosaic Ceremonial Law. So, again we see that the seventh-day Sabbath was different than these ceremonial sabbaths and it was the ceremonial sabbaths that were done away with according to Colossians 2:14.

Paul doesn’t mince words in Colossians 2. He doesn’t say “ceremonial Sabbaths” as opposed to “weekly Sabbaths.” He simply says Sabbaths, and then he tells you up front what they were: shadows (Colossians 2:16–17). And shadows are never primary. Shadows point to the real thing. The real thing is Christ.

When the Substitute came, you didn’t keep your eyes on the shadow on the ground. You look to Him.

Even clearer, Hebrews 4. The true rest of God’s people has nothing to do with punching in and out of a 24-hour period. It has to do with resting in Christ Himself. Verse 10: “whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works.” That is, the Sabbath rest is Jesus saying, “It is finished” (John 19:30). When you rest in Him by faith, you cease from your own efforts to work into God’s good graces. That’s the Sabbath rest.

Look, I’m not going to pretend that this is easy. Nine of the Ten Commandments are reconfirmed in the New Testament as binding. Don’t murder, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t covet, said over and over. But the Sabbath commandment? That’s the only one that isn’t reconfirmed. Instead, Romans 14: 5: “One man regards one day as specially important, another man regards every day as alike.” And Paul says let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. If the seventh-day Sabbath is the test for salvation, Paul would not have written that.

Honoring God with a day of rest is a good thing. But making the Sabbath the test of salvation is not from the Bible, it’s additional to Jesus (Galatians 5:4). If you want to be justified by law, you have fallen from grace.

The gospel is not “Christ plus a day.” The gospel is Christ alone. And if you have Him, you have already got rest for your soul (Matthew 11:28).

Its clear that is what he is talking about, ask anyone of Jewish background and he quickly will understand and tell you, but for most Christians it just goes right over their head.

Its clear that is what he is talking about, ask anyone of Jewish background and he quickly will understand and tell you, but for most Christians it just goes right over their head.

First of all, the overwhelming majority of Jewish people today do not believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah. It has not gone over my head. I said exactly what the Bible teaches and anything else is just man’s opinion.

Let’s use a picture. You are waiting at a bus stop, and you see the shadow of the bus approaching. You don’t climb onto the shadow and sit there all day, you wait for the real thing. That’s what Paul meant when he said in Colossians 2:16–17 that Sabbaths were a shadow and Christ is the substance. When the real thing arrives, you don’t keep gawking at the ground.

Hebrews 4 drives the point home. The real rest is not arriving after a 24-hour duty period and logging back in. The rest is resting in Christ and His finished work. “Whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works”. That is, Jesus on the cross crying out, “It is finished” (John 19:30).

Nine of the Ten Commandments are repeated in the New Testament. Not the Sabbath command. Instead, in Romans 14:5, Paul wrote, “One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” If Sabbath-keeping is the line in the sand, that passage would not have been written by Paul.

This is the point: The gospel is not Christ plus a day. It is Christ alone. The shadow pointed to Him, but once you have Him you have already entered the rest for your soul (Matthew 11:28).
