Good morning, brothers and sisters;
I was having a serious conversation and prayer with a friend regarding healing for their adult child and I thought of my own illness when I was a child, 5 years old.
I do believe our God who loves each of us unconditionally listens to our prayers and brings deliverance in our circumstances especially healing and reconciliation from broken relationships.
I remember my late Mom had a good memory and I have long remembered my own memories. I feel I got this from her.
When I was a child I had asthma and had to get a shot in the arm every week. My parents also ministered to me a pill called Tedral, some liquid medicine and spray inhaler to relieve me of my asthma attacks. My parents who were both in their mid 20s ministered too many meds to me.
In the middle of the night I developed hallucinations. I heard frogs outside and it seemed they were in my bed. I also developed the feeling of worms, lots of them crawling around my body.
This hallucination seemed like forever (it only lasted a week) until one day it was too much for me and my Dad took me to the emergency. The doctor told my Dad I was given too much meds and this could have developed the hallucinations.
That evening I remember my Mom laid in bed with me and she began to pray. I don't know what she was saying but I fell asleep and by morning it was all gone. As a little boy I didn't understand these happenings.
But as an adult this memory of my experience never went away. At times I do think how God may receive our prayers as hesitation for something I may have done wrong, or treating the Lord as a quick fix god, or does my heart have ulterior motives undeserving of God's mercies?
But when I recall Luke 11:5-8 the friend knocking asks his friend at home for bread to feed his visitor. In Luke 18:1-8 when the widow was pleading to the judge for justice. In both the friend at home and judge were hesitant, but the friend knocking and the widow were persistent.
Luke 18:1-8, 1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” - ESV
Luke 11:5-8, 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. - ESV
I have to believe God heard my Mom's prayers and beyond. When I turned 14 I had an allergy test taken for my asthma. The doctor stuck pins in my back and learned I'm allergic to camels. lol!
Later that year my asthma went away because my airways matured making it easier to breath and play sports. The symptoms can come back but since 1971 the asthma has not returned.
The difference with God is He waits for our passionate, persistence prayers and overlooks our shame and pride, for those who truly seek God. His answer to our prayers have not always been an obvious yes to me, but He does what's best, they come with lessons about knowing God more, and it's always for His glory.
