How exactly was the death of Jesus prophesied in the Old Testament to happen? Can anyone explain this?

The Old Testament did not say the Messiah would die by Roman crucifixion in those exact words, but it clearly showed how He would suffer and die.

Psalm 22 says, “They pierced my hands and my feet” ~Psalm 22:16. It also says they would divide His garments and cast lots for them ~Psalm 22:18. That is exactly what happened at the cross ~John 19:23-24.

Isaiah 53 explains why He died. “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities” ~Isaiah 53:5. It also says, “the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” ~Isaiah 53:6. So His death was not an accident. He died in the place of sinners.

Daniel 9:26 says, “Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself.” Zechariah 12:10 also says, “they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.” John connects that to Jesus being pierced after His death ~John 19:34-37.

So the Old Testament showed that the Messiah would be pierced, rejected, suffer for sin, die for others, and be buried with the rich. That is why Paul said Christ “died for our sins according to the scriptures” ~1 Corinthians 15:3.
