This song gets right to the heart of why we need to read the Bible for ourselves. Too many people build their faith on a preacher, a personality, a tradition, or something they heard repeated for years. But the real question is not, “Who said it?” The question is, “Is it written?”
The Bereans were called noble because they “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). They even tested Paul’s teaching by the written Word. That means no preacher, teacher, ministry, or popular voice is above examination.
We should listen, learn, and receive faithful teaching, but we must never hand another person the responsibility God has given us to know His Word. Open the Bible. Read the context. Compare Scripture with Scripture. Let God speak through what He has written.
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
