Are the words in the Bible "imperfect"?

When those same themes keep repeating, it’s not coincidence. It follows the same pattern Satan used from the beginning, planting subtle doubt in what God said. His first recorded words were, “Yea, hath God said…?” ~Genesis 3:1. He didn’t openly deny God; he questioned His Word. That same tactic shows up whenever people start suggesting that the Bible can’t be trusted unless it’s filtered through some manmade system or special interpretation.

Jesus faced the same kind of twisting in the wilderness when the devil quoted Scripture out of context ~Matthew 4:6, and Jesus answered with Scripture in full context ~Matthew 4:7. That’s the pattern we’re called to follow, test every teaching by the Word itself. “Test all things; hold fast what is good” ~1 Thessalonians 5:21.
Hi David,
I hope I am not going to complicate things with my question. This could be another part of the Bible Study?
I looked up Gen 3:1, Matt 4:6 and 4:7 ... and found a huge discrepancy in KJV of the same verse (see attachment)
Eg G "test" vs "tempt" ,,, these words mean different things for me, but maybe I am wrong?
What is the best and purest form of the Bible, to follow?

I will completely understand if you feel that my question is inappropriate, and is just going to cause unnecessary discussion : )

Your question is completely fine. You’re doing the right thing by checking the verses for yourself.

The difference you saw between “test” and “tempt” is just how English words work. The Greek word peirazō can mean test, try or tempt. The context decides which one fits. When Satan does it, it is temptation toward evil. When God allows it, it is a testing of faith. James makes that simple: God never tempts anyone to sin ~James 1:13.

About which Bible is the “purest,” the safe answer is this. Stick with a translation that holds close to the original text. The KJV is solid. The NKJV, NASB and ESV are also very reliable. The goal is not finding a perfect English word, but staying with what God actually said in Scripture.

And when I say “let the Bible interpret itself,” I mean this. When one verse seems confusing, you use the rest of the Bible to explain it. God never contradicts Himself ~2 Peter 1:21. The clear verses help you understand the harder ones.

It’s simple: If a new idea does not match what the rest of Scripture already says, the new idea is wrong. The Scripture is not.

So your question isn’t causing trouble. It’s exactly how Bible study should work.

We have to be on guard with these new translations, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us on this.
Hi Hobie,
Can you please give an example of "these new translations" ... I am battling to understand your meaning and purpose : ) Thanks Linda

Scripture warns that false teachers look harmless but twist God’s Word. “Beware of false prophets” ~Matthew 7:15. Test every teaching by Scripture alone, because God says, “Do not add to His words” ~Proverbs 30:6. Stay with the truth, and reject every counterfeit.
