How to Be Saved (with the gospel)

How to Be Saved

Do you want to know how to be saved? Here's what the Bible says — clearly and directly.

1. You must understand your need.

The Bible says all have sinned:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." — Romans 3:23

And the penalty for sin is death:

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." — Romans 6:23

2. You cannot save yourself.

No amount of good works, religion, or church attendance can save you:

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us." — Titus 3:5
"For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." — Ephesians 2:8–9

3. Jesus Christ is the only way.

Jesus, the Son of God, lived a sinless life and died on the cross to take your punishment. He rose from the dead on the third day:

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." — Romans 5:8
"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day." — 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

Jesus said:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." — John 14:6

4. You must repent and believe the Gospel.

To be saved, you must turn to God — believing in Jesus and trusting Him alone for forgiveness:

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out." — Acts 3:19
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." — Romans 10:9

5. Salvation happens the moment you truly believe.

The instant you trust in Christ — not just in your mind, but in your heart — God saves you, forgives you, and gives you eternal life:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life." — John 5:24

Will you trust Jesus Christ today?

You can call out to Him right now. There is no magic prayer. Simply repent and believe — surrender your life to Him. He promises to save those who come to Him in faith:

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." — Romans 10:13

After You're Saved

  • Be baptized as a public declaration of your faith (Acts 2:38)
  • Read the Bible daily — it is your spiritual food (Matthew 4:4)
  • Pray — talk to God regularly (Philippians 4:6–7)
  • Ask the Holy Spirit in prayer to open your eyes and help you understand the Bible
  • Join with true believers — don’t walk alone (Hebrews 10:25)
  • Live holy — you now belong to Christ (Romans 6:22)
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17
